Period 3 notes and observations

Is Spezza unable to play a game without making a giveaway? He always seems to be overthinking his plays, trying to hard to make something beautiful

Gerber should have had that one. We're not going to get anywhere with a goalie that lets in a soft goal every game.

ah well, at least we're technically at .500

Gerber was so close to having a good game, and then he has to go mess it all up at the very end.

Period 2 notes and observations

Fisher is looking like he'll be a good threat this year, he had a good run at the net early in the second.

The Sens must have downed a couple gallons of redbull in the intermission, they're playing much harder and faster.

Vermette got robbed on that shorthanded breakaway, and it looks like our penalty kill is much improved from last year.

Damn delay of game penalties. But once again the penalty kill rocks it out.

Holy crap were the refs whistle happy.

Foligno pulled an ovechkin level goal there. Let's hope we see more of those as the year goes on. It's nice to see that we've already got some new stars that are competent on the 3rd and 4th lines

Period 1 notes and observations

The new hockey night theme is okay, but we'll have to see if it gets better after I hear it a few times.

I'm glad that Phillips grew the goatee, now there's finally an ottawa player that I think is hot.

Early on, Gerber had made some nice saves, but the rest of the team just collapsed.

The 5 on 3 really helped, and I think we've found our powerplay defenceman in Picard.

The main problem seems to be that the Wings are much stronger in 5 on 5. The sens are getting great rushes, but they didn't seem to be able to set up in the offensive zone

TRAITOR

This past sunday morning, I walked out of my apartment to get a coffee. Otherwise this would have been unremarkable, but I was wearing my Sens jersey. There was a game to be played and they would be guaranteed to lose if I wasn't in full regalia. About a block from the evil empire of the bean, a gentleman in a canucks hat passed me, looked me up and down, and muttered "Traitor" at me.

I was on cloud nine. It's been a point of honour for me that since I moved to Vancouver, I've been a die-hard Ottawa fan. Last time the Sens played here I paid $250 for a ticket in the nosebleeds and painted my face in team colours. When the playoffs are on, I set up a shrine on top of my television. I wear at least one piece of clothing related to the Sens every game day (Jersey, Hat, Socks, still looking for sens printed underwear). There's nothing wrong with the Canucks. Well, there's nothing wrong with cheering for the canucks.

Why am I not a Canucks die hard yet? I've been here for 7 years, isn't that enough time to build up a loyalty to them? They're just not my team. I know almost as much about them as I know about the Sens, and I hope they win most of their games, but they're not where my sports loving heart lies. Rest assured though, if there's ever an Ottawa-Vancouver Stanley Cup final, I'll take out a line of credit to get tickets just so I can be the guy that gets the crap beaten out of him for celebrating the home team's loss a little too loudly.
